Tower Bridge, London

I met Dan late one London evening while taking a stroll across the iconic Tower Bridge. I walked by him just as a time-lapsed photo appeared on the display of his tri-pod mounted DSLR camera. “Ohhh shiney!” I thought to myself, and asked Dan if I could see more of his photographs.  I was proper impressed, so I decided to showcase some of my favorite works by Dan, and have him answer a few questions for those interested in finding out more about this talented 19 year old lad.

Dan where are you from, and what are you up currently?

I was born in Basingstoke and I have always lived here. I’m 19 years old and have just finished college, where I studied Graphic Design, Photography and ICT. Currently I am working a full-time job and a part-time job to save up for Uni! I am waiting for my exam results, which determine whether I will be able to get into UWE –Bristol University to study Graphic Design.

You have a good eye. The image above is fantastic. What got you into photography?

I bought myself a cheap bridge camera probably about 5 or 6 years ago. I shot a lot of videos of my friends when I was down at the skatepark or just riding around on BMX bikes. The camera I had was mainly aimed at photography rather than videography so I messed around taking a few photos of my mates riding.

I really enjoyed taken images so from that point on I suppose I got a bit more serious about photography, I upgraded my camera and got a Canon DSLR (which I am still currently using).

“London felt small from where I was stood.”

Are you inspired by any particular photographers?

My favorite photographer, and biggest photography inspiration, is Ravi Vora. I found his work randomly on Instagram one night when I was just scanning through the search page. Every single image he takes is such a high quality. If you’ve looked at his work, you must think like me that he has unbelievable camera control and is always capturing images at the perfect moments. He captures some incredible images of this modern world we live in from so many different places around the world.

A lot of photographers have inspired me to take images in different ways and present them in different ways, such as David Hockney with his Joiner images. I still like the simple, modern digital images with the crisp quality, the ones you take yourself and you can spend a lot of time editing them on your computer to perfect them. Personally I like looking at these images more than any others.

What place, that you have not yet been to, would you most like to visit and photograph?

This is not an easy question to answer for me, as there are so many places I want to visit! I can think of loads of places I want to go. Although most images I take are in cities or towns, I feel I would enjoy going somewhere scenic to shoot. I really want to start taking some landscape photos around mountain areas so I think for that reason I’d go to Gallatin Valley – Montana USA.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

After I have finished my degree I would like to travel the world before I look into properly starting my career. Then again, there’s nothing stopping me from starting my career whilst I travel! I want to explore the world as much as I can and take as many photos as I can.

I’ll be travelling, experiencing new places/things, meeting new people, taking photos and creating a stronger portfolio all at once.

I can’t wait for the day I pack my bag and set off around the world to be honest with you!
